Monkey head mushroom is a type of medium and low temperature edible fungi, and prefers cold and cool climates with a temperature ranging from 15℃ to 22℃. As it contains essential amino acids for the human body and is rich in nutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium, calcium, iron, and selenium, as well as physiologically active ingredients like polysaccharides, it has rich nutritional and medicinal value.

Edible mushrooms have become one of the characteristic industries in the town. The edible mushroom base, also known as Hunan Hongcheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd., registered by Zeng Qun from Bamao Village in Wanmipo Town and Zhou Hailin from Kezhai Village in Qingshuiping Town, integrates planting, processing, and sales, with a total of over 100 mu (about 6.67 hectares) of planting area and over 300 planting greenhouses. Varieties such as morel mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, and monkey head mushrooms have been cultivated.

In 2023, the base achieved sales of over 4 million strains and offered jobs to surrounding residents.

“The base has collaborated with Jishou University in scientific research. Its edible mushrooms have not only achieved year-round production, but also broken regional restrictions to maintain stable growth through the model of ‘technology plus base plus farmer’ with the help of scientific research cooperation and digital platforms,” Zeng Qun said.

Wanmipo Town has made efforts to develop the edible mushroom industry by attracting local talents and technology project funds, and it has become a new way to advance the development of the village collective economy.

Next, Wanmipo Town will continue to develop the modern characteristic agricultural industry and introduce technology, funds, talents and other resources into rural areas to open up new tracks for economic development through digital empowerment and promote the development of the village collective economy.
